Gonorrhoea

Gonorrhoea

Gonorrhoea is usually spread through genital fluids where sex is unprotected. It will likely infect the urethra, cervix, anus, throat, and eyes. Less likely, the infection can spread into the bloodstream, causing skin lesions, fever, and joint pains. Not a pretty sight, hey?

If you contract Gono, it is important to tell your partner/partners so they can immediately get tested. Trust us, you don’t want them to also have this bug. Be safe rather than sorry.

Common Symptoms:

  • Irregular discharge from the penis, vagina, or anus
  • Stinging sensation when urinating
  • A sore or dry throat.

Diagnosis:

  • Urine sample
  • Swab sample

If gonorrhoea is treated with antibiotics, you’re likely to see symptoms subside within a period of 24 hours. If untreated, this STD could lead to pelvic inflammatory disease, a common pre-cursor to infertility.

If you don’t want to catch this nasty bug, then using protection such as a condom and dam are widely advised. These contraceptives are available at any clinic, so we don’t want any excuses, capeesh?

If you have Gono, ensure that you don’t have sex at least a week into treatment. If your partner also has it, make sure to remind them to do the same.
